Numonyx® AXFS

Advanced XiP File System (AXFS) is a read only flash file system for code execution that significantly reduces the amount of storage space required for code. AXFS also provides the ability to use a single software architecture regardless of flash technology allowing an OEM to make the most efficient use of NAND and NOR flash in a handset design.

Technology
AXFS selectively compresses pages of an executable in flash memory allowing the frequently accessed code to be stored uncompressed and executed directly from flash. Less frequently used code is stored compressed and uncompressed when needed. This achieves a balance between storage savings and performance. Savings in code storage range from 25 percent to 50 percent depending on how much code is compressed.

Availability
AXFS for Linux is open source and available now. AXFS code is available at axfs.sourceforge.net. Contact your Numonyx representative for more information for AXFS on Linux and AXFS for other operating systems.
